- Married for nearly 33 yrs now to a wonderful wife. I was diagnosed with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy in July, 1992 at age 40. I was sustained with meds and ICDs until my eventual heart transplant in late October, 2002. After the heart was implanted and going without incident a trainwreck occurred with the removal of my ICD lead wires. One was known to be inextractable, but was inadvertently pulled out with the innominate vein. Arghhh, but I am still blessed to be here.
